Description

Distant Illusions is a small but fiercely passionate game development team, founded by Mors and Catonator, with the goal of creating (weird) games that leave a lasting impact.

History

How it all started...

Mors and Catonator first met in the mid-2010s on an online forum. Mors had already made a name for himself by creating fangames that had previously gone viral, while Catonator was an up-and-coming composer with a strong interest in how video games worked behind the scenes. Their frequent collaborations in game jams eventually led to Operius in 2021, which won Opera GX's offline game jam, and got directly integrated into the browser itself, while also serving as a launch title for their GX.games platform. This success led to the formation of Distant Illusions in 2022.

A new beginning

After forming Distant Illusions, they began work on several projects, starting with the development of Distant Illusions' very own game engine, Radium. Their relationship with Opera continued to grow as well, leading to further collaborations and the development of more promotional games for the Opera GX browser. One of these games was even showcased at the Opera GX booth during Gamescom 2023, thousands of attendees got to chance to play the game. They also teamed up with Round Cartridge to provide programming, audio, and additional publishing assistance for their game, Dorimiveglia. Currently, the team's main project are Operius DX, an enhanced version of Operius, set to release soon on the Nintendo eShop, Steam, and itch.io, as well as a 3D platformer powered by the aforementioned Radium engine.
